OCALA FEDEX GROUND HUB

The Ocala FedEx Ground Hub operations center will be constructed on a 150-acre site and the main structure will occupy an area of about 380,000 sf.  Due to the highly variable geologic conditions, GEC implemented an extensive Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) study as part of the geotechnical engineering investigation for the design and construction of the FedEx facilities.  The GPR study, in conjunction with the geotechnical soil borings, provided a cost-effective and time-efficient method to map out potential problematic soil conditions within the building footprints.  GEC provided the final geotechnical engineering recommendations for the project, including building foundation recommendations to mitigate the risk of future sinkhole activity, and procedures to address any sinkholes that may appear during the construction phase.
