AT LAKE NONA
GEC provided environmental and geotechnical engineering consulting for this 175,000 sq ft east coast headquarters building for the La Jolla, California-based medical research institute. The building which sits on 12 acres of a 50 acre parcel was completed in 2009. The Burnham anchors the Lake Nona 650-acre Medical City campus, easily accessible from Orlando International Airport. The Burnham is the first east coast for one of the nation’s leading scientific research institutions.
Sanford-Burnham is the largest LEED-Gold certified independent science facility in Florida. The Orlando LaKe Nona facility focuses on a wide range of complex diseases including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Sanford-Burnham became the first anchor tenant in Lake Nona’s Medical City complex, an emerging biomedical research, education and health care cluster.
GEC additional assignments for Medical City include construction materials testing services for master infrastructure including key roadway, stormwater and utility projects.
